Catechism Compendium translation available 31 March
English translations of the Compendium of the Catechism of the Church - including the Australian version - will be released on 31 March.
Fr Michael Goonan of St Paul's Publications says that his organisation will release the 208 page Compendium in both hardcover and paperback editions. He says time zone differences mean that the Australian edition will appear ahead of those in other English-speaking countries including the US.
St Pauls is the authorised publisher of the Australian edition of the work that Pope Benedict XVI has described as "a faithful and sure synthesis of the Catechism of the Catholic Church".
The Holy Father said that it contains, in concise form, "all the essential and fundamental elements of the Church's faith".
Fr Goonan said in a statement released yesterday that the Compendium has three principal characteristics: close reliance on the Catechism; a dialogical format; and the use of artistic images in the catechesis. The work contains 14 religious paintings, reproduced in colour, each with a detailed explanation of its religious significance.
He said he believes Australians buying it locally - rather than through the US - will receive it earlier and more cheaply. The website contains order details (link below).
