Milestone for Wollongong cathedral
The NSW Diocese of Wollongong has announced the successful applicant to prepare a master plan for its new cathedral site.
ABC Illawarra reports that Conybeare Morrison International has been appointed from a short list of candidates. The company specialises in urban design, planning architecture and heritage conservation.
Bishop Peter Ingham of Wollongong told the ABC that there is a great need for a more modern, larger cathedral for the diocese.
"The cathedral is like the flagship of the diocese, it's the church that is the bishop's church, so the cathedral is really the flagship of all the churches in the diocese and that's where the big functions take place," he said.
