Pell named to post-Synod committee

Cardinal George Pell is part of a team of 15 prelates selected for a post-synodal council that is to carry the work of the 2-23 October Synod of Bishops to its conclusion.

CLICK HERECatholic World News reports that Archbishop Nikola Eterovic, the general secretary of the Synod of Bishops, released the names of the committee members. There are four from each of the regions America, Asia/Oceania, and Europe, and three from Africa.

Some of the members were elected by the full Synod membership; others were appointed by Pope Benedict XVI.

Meanwhile Cardinal Pell participated in a post-synodal press conference at the weekend, along with Cardinal Marc Ouellet of Quebec, Archbishop Roland Minnerath of Dijon, France, and Bishop Salvatore Fisichella, rector of the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome.

The Vatican Information Service says Cardinal Ouellet spoke of the climate of fraternity and unity in the faith that had characterised the Synod, despite the diversity of cultures. He specified how the final message of the synodal assembly was based "not on propositions or comments, but on the Eucharist as the fulcrum of Church life and activity".
