Pope appoints Australian Jesuit to dialogue position

Pope Benedict XVI has nominated Fr Daniel Madigan to the position of consultor to the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue.

Fr Madigan, who teaches at the Pontifical Gregorian University, also heads the Institute for the Study of Religions and Cultures, which he established in 2002. His specialisation is Islam, and the Institute has proved especially useful in facilitating understanding Islam in the years following the September 11 attack.

Other consultors appointed to the Council include US Muslim convert to Catholicism, Professor Lamin Sanneh, Sr Gerardette Philips RSCJ of India, Dr Sandra Keating of the USA, José Luis Sánchez Nogales of Spain, and Fr Andrea Pacini of Italy.
