Book honours Salesian bible expert
One of Australia's best known international scripture scholars - Professor Frank Moloney - has been honoured with a festschrift, launched recently at Australian Catholic University campuses in Brisbane and Sydney.
Professor Moloney, 65, was Foundation Professor of Theology at Australian Catholic University (ACU National), and a member of the International Theological Commission at the Vatican. He is currently Dean of the School of Theology and Religious Studies at the Catholic University of America in Washington DC.
The festschrift - titled Transcending Boundaries: Contemporary Readings of the New Testament - was co-edited by ACU National Senior Lecturer in the School of Theology, Dr Mary Coloe, and Dr Rekha Chennattu of the Religious of the Assumption.
At the Brisbane Campus launch, Professor Tony Kelly recalled his long association with Professor Moloney, which lead to their recent joint authorship of the book, Experiencing God in the Gospel of John. Professor Kelly went on to say that the internationally renowned scholarship of Professor Moloney has put Australia in the forefront of biblical studies, and has been a great gift to the Church of this country.
Dr Coloe was a student of Professor Moloney's during her undergraduate years.
"Frank has been an ongoing mentor to me in my own theological work. I have often sought his advice on academic matters, and frequently turned to him for support. I continue to share my research and papers with him and find his advice most helpful," she said.
