ACU launching Institute of Child Protection Studies
The Australian Catholic University's Canberra campus this morning launches its Institute of Child Protection Studies, in collaboration with the ACT Office for Children, Youth and Family Support.
The Territory's Minister for Office for Children, Youth and Family Support, Ms Katy Gallagher MLA, will open the Institute at a function in the Blackfriars garden of the ACU's Signadou campus.
She will acknowledge the important role of the Institute of Child Protection Studies in realising the ACT Government's commitment to children and education through the Canberra Social Plan, which is a government framework for future planning with a strong social justice focus.
ACU National Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and International), Professor John Coll (pictured) said the Institute of Child Protection Studies is an important and progressive initiative for the University.
"The Institute will promote good practice in the care and protection of children by assisting in the skill development of practitioners and it will inform the development of best practice child protection policy and programs," said Professor Coll.
"ACU National Canberra Campus has been providing the Bachelor of Social Work program since 1995 and has supplied a significant number of graduates to work in the field of the care and protection of children over the last 10 years," said Professor Coll.
