Pell's key role in Vatican liturgy meeting
Sydney's Cardinal George Pell left for Rome yesterday, where he will speak at a four-day meeting of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Sacraments that begins tonight Sydney time.
Zenit reports that Cardinal Pell will give an address titled The Meaning, Method and Scope of the 'Recognitio', in his capacity of chair of the Vatican's Vox Clara English translations committee.
The 'Recognitio' is the Holy See's recognition of translations of liturgical and other texts made by bishops' conferences.
Cardinal Francis Arinze (pictured), prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Sacraments, will preside over the meeting in the Bologna Hall of the Apostolic Palace. The assembly will be attended by 51 members, including 32 cardinals, and 19 archbishops and bishops of the Congregation.
The Bulletin Vatican Information Service announced the four main topics on the agenda. They are: "Ars celebrandi," presented by Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, archbishop of Buenos Aires; "Formation, Spirituality and the Liturgical Ministry," by Cardinal Philippe Barbarin, archbishop of Lyon; "Homilies" by Cardinal Ivan Dias, archbishop of Bombay, and "Meaning, Method and Extension of the 'recognitio'" by Cardinal George Pell, Archbishop of Sydney.
