Sydney Planning Committee holds first meeting
Sydney's Archdiocesan Renewal Planning Committee, established by Cardinal Pell following a decision reached at the Clergy Forum last October and announced in his Advent Pastoral, held its inaugural meeting in Sydney last Wednesday.
A statement released by the Archdiocese yesterday indicates that the Committee will work within the framework of Catholic teaching to "strengthen Catholic life, foster cooperation and service, and strengthen evangelical outreach across the Archdiocese".
Bishop Julian Porteous chaired the Committee's first meeting.
Other members - pictured in the photograph, from left - include: Fr Geoff Plant, Mr Peter Turner, Monsignor Vincent Redden, Bishop Julian Porteous - Chair, Father Dominic Ceresoli CS, Mr Max Bosotti - Consultant, behind, Mr Anthony Cleary, Mr Danny Casey, Miss Selina Hasham, Miss Marita Franklin, Sr Philomene Tiernan RSCJ, and Fr John Usher. Mr Stephen Lawrence is absent.
The statement, released by Catholic Communications, reports that the Committee will work to identify goals, priorities and timelines to be incorporated into a Diocesan Pastoral Plan for five years, while respecting the proper autonomy of parishes, communities, and agencies such as schools, hospitals, Centacare etc.
"After wide consultation, including working closely with the Continuing Education of the Clergy Committee, the Archdiocesan Renewal Pastoral Committee will work towards presenting a draft pastoral plan identifying areas for action to a Sydney Archdiocesan Assembly in 2006."
