Community to pray for Palm Island reconciliation

The Catholic Church joined the Indigenous community in prayers for reconciliation in Townsville, in north Queensland, last night. The Eucharist for Reconciliation was prompted by the unrest on Palm Island, off Townsville. Bishop Michael Putney held the service at St Theresa's Church at Garbutt.

Len Horner from the Townsville diocese says Catholic elders from Palm Island also attended.

"Just I suppose as a sign of solidarity that both the Indigenous and non-Indigenous Catholic communities can stand together to recognise that there are problems and seek some kind of guidance from God that we will find a way through to a better lifestyle for the people on Palm Island," he said.
