Kolkata main street renamed Mother Teresa Road
The main street of Kolkata (formerly Calcutta), formerly known as Park Street, has now officially been renamed "Mother Teresa Road".
Catholic World News reports that although city officials had announced plans for the move a year ago - shortly after Mother Teresa's beatification - the plaque marking the change was not put in place until Saturday.
At a short ceremony, Sister Nirmala Joshi, superior general of the Missionaries of Charity, unveiled a bronze statue of the Mother on the occasion.
Meanwhile in Delhi, the pre-independence era Willingdon Crescent Road in the heart of the national capital was renamed Mother Teresa Road at the time of the beatification.
