Archbishop Bathersby applauds politicians' focus on family
Archbishop John Bathersby of Brisbane has told a group of married couples at a Mass in St Stephen's Cathedral that the renewed interest in marriage and family was the most pleasing aspect of the recent federal election campaign.
The Archbishop's 16 October comments are reported in this Sunday's issue of the Catholic Leader.
He said it was "almost as if for the first time Australia and Australian politicians from all sides of politics have realised the importance of marriage and the family for the health and well-being of our society".
The remarks were included in his homily at the cathedral's annual Mass for couples celebrating 50 years of marriage or longer. He drew on the readings of the day to reflect on Christ's presence in marriage.
