Dominican friars re-elect Prior Provincial
Dominican Friars gathered in Canberra for their Province Chapter this week re-elected ethicist Fr Tom Cassidy (pictured) as Prior Provincial.
Fr Cassidy was confirmed in the office by the Most Reverend Carlos Aspiroz Costa, Rome-based Master of the Order of Preachers. For the next four years, Fr Cassidy will continue to administer the Province of the Assumption, which includes Australia, New Zealand, Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea.
The election took place on Tuesday, during the chapter that was held at John XXIII College at the Australian National University.
Born in Melbourne in 1941, Fr Cassidy was educated by the Jesuits. He has lectured in moral theology at Yarra Theological Union, Melbourne, and worked in New Zealand, as a parish priest and National Director of Catholic Communications.
