New Research Director for Australian Catholic Bishops' Conference
Archbishop Francis Carroll yesterday announced the appointment of Peter McArdle as Research Director of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference.
Mr McArdle comes to the Canberra-based position after a career in the public service. He has held senior positions in several departments, including Immigration and Employment. Mr McArdle has degrees in Law and Economics.
He took up his new role this week and said he was looking forward to applying his experience and skills to serving the Bishops and the Catholic community in a broad range of areas.
"Catholics live in the modern world, with all of its pressures and complexities," he said. "The Church has a particular perspective on a whole range of issues that touch public life and I am looking forward to serving the Bishops as they respond to such issues."
Mr McArdle lives in Canberra with his wife, Collette. They have two adult daughters.
Archbishop Carroll welcomed Mr McArdle to his new position at the Conference Secretariat.
"I am delighted that Peter has taken up the position of Research Director for the Bishops' Conference. His professional experience and personal commitment will be of great service to the Conference," Archbishop Carroll said.
