CWL urges prayer to end sexual exploitation
The Catholic Women's League of Australia (CWLA) is observing today's Feast of St Maria Goretti as a day of prayer for an end to the violence and sexual exploitation of women and children.
The organisation has circulated to parishes and schools a prayer card which asks that children "suffer no more".
CWLA says the promotion of the prayer card is timely as Australia was recently named as a "destination country" for sex slaves in a US State Department report on the international trafficking of women and children for prostitution.
CWLA National Social Issues Convenor Mrs Maree Triffett highlighted the importance of the Prayer Day, by stating, "It is horrifying that one million children throughout the world are victims of sexual slavery".
The prayer card, which contains the image and prayer on this page, was designed by the children of St Marks Primary School at Drummoyne in Sydney.
CWLA Prayer to Saint Maria Goretti
I know I pray to you each day
for things that are selfish and greedy
but today I want to ask you
to watch over the children most needy.
I know some people use them
in ways not meant to be
please, dear Lord, protect them,
from their pain, set them free.
I want to pray for the kids out there,
who are ragged and homeless and poor,
that their shelter and clothing and food is good,
and that they suffer no more.
By Hannah, aged 11
St Maria Goretti pray for us and for suffering children everywhere.
