Vincentians elect new Superior General
At its General Assembly in Rome last week, the Congregation of the Mission (better known as the Vincentians), elected American Fr Gregory Gay as 23rd successor to its founder St Vincent de Paul.
The Chapter has 150 religious participating from 52 Provinces. The new Superior General was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1953 and was ordained priest in 1980.
The Vidimus Dominum news service rerports that the theme of the general Chapter is "Our Vincentian Identify Today, An Evaluation and Three Challenges for the Future 20 Years after the General Constitutions".
The "challenges" identified in the preparatory phase of the Chapter are: the necessity to revitalize the Vincentian calling; to revitalize apostolic activity; to renew community life.
