Dublin archbishop says doubters should avoid sacraments
People who do not believe in the "real essence" of the sacraments should not present themselves for them, according to Dublin's Archbishop Diarmuid Martin.
He was commenting on the widespread practice of people availing of the sacraments during weddings and funerals who do not normally attend Mass or practice the faith, the Irish Independent reported on Thursday.
The archbishop told the Kerry diocesan magazine, Lumen: "We have to strike some sort of balance in which we are more demanding about access to the sacraments. People have to realise that the sacraments are religious events in which we encounter Jesus."
