Catholics who were awarded Queen's Birthday Honours
Ms Bernadette McMenamin, who has been at the forefront of efforts to end child prostitution in Asian tourism is amongst those who received the highest Queen's Birthday Honour as an Officer of the Order of Australia.
Ms Bernadette Mary McMenamin was the founder of ECPAT (End Child Prostitution in Asian Tourism, now Childwise) helping to establish an office in Bangkok in 1991 and served as National Director of the agency. She has also served as an adviser to the Catholic Archbishop Adelaide on the creation of safer schools.
Ms McMenamin is among more than thirty individuals whose names we are able to publish from the Queen's Birthday Honours list who have connections with activities associated with the Catholic Church. The list we are publishing was provided by Mr Ramon A. Williams of The Religious Media Agency who manually scanned the published lists for all the Christian churches. The editors of CathNews have added to the list from their knowledge but it is not necessarily complete and we would welcome notification of the names of other Catholic recipients so that this list can be updated in the coming days. Please forward any information to the editor via (a href="mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org&Subject="Queen's Birthday Honours"">email@example.com.
