Sydney CEO recognised with leadership award
The Catholic Education Office, Sydney, has won the Leadership Award in the recent annual Australian Business Excellence Awards.
The Catholic Weekly reports that the award was presented to Br Kelvin Canavan, executive director of schools.
The Business Excellence Awards are an initiative of SAI Global (formerly Standards Australia).
After an evaluation of school and system documentation, an SAI Global team visited schools in April and met focus groups of principals and Catholic Education Office staff. They spent time at regional Catholic Education offices and at the Leichhardt office to make an assessment of the schools' and school system's leadership performance against the criteria of the Australian Business Excellence framework.
The citation read in part: "The award recognises those organisations demonstrating the purpose, vision and goals to ensure sustainable success. The organisation will have a clear leadership system and also contribute effectively to the community in which they work ... the organisation has shown that its chief executive officer has set strategic directions and values that are tightly held by its employees and demonstrated in their actions".
