Bishop says Play School no place for 'two Mums'

Bishop Christopher Toohey has joined in the widespread community criticism of the ABC TV program Play School for showing a segment related to lesbian marriage.

The Catholic Weekly reports that the segment showed a young girl going to a fun park with a pointed reference to her "two Mums".

Bishop Toohey, of the NSW country Diocese of Wilcannia-Forbes, is secretary of the Bishops Committee for the Family and for Life. He said the segment is inappropriate and would be confusing for young children.

The Play School segment has been condemned by Prime Minister John Howard, Opposition Leader Mark Latham, Communications Minister Daryl Williams and Church groups.

Bishop Toohey said: "Kids need some kind of view of the world consistent with human experience and I would think that the concept of 'two Mums' would be very difficult for little kids to handle."
