Preparation on schedule for family gathering
Families from across Australia are gearing up for the Second National Family Gathering in Sydney this month where they will hear from international keynote speakers and participate in hands-on workshops in a joyful celebration of family life.
The 16-18 April gathering - entitled Living the Dream - is an initiative of the Bishops' Committee for the Family and for Life. Organisers say there is still time to register and families who attended the first Family Gathering in Melbourne have urged others not to miss out on the experience.
Chris and Tom Wilson of Adelaide (pictured) said their family life had been enriched by the inaugural "Dare to Dream" gathering and they had gained a greater appreciation of the role of the family in the life of the Church.
"Attendance at the National Family Gathering will allow you to express your views and to hear other people's views," they said. " It will assist the Bishops in gaining a greater appreciation of the hopes, fears and dreams of Australian Catholic families - something which is important for them to know each time they meet with the Pope and bishops from other parts of the world."
World renowned speaker on Pope John Paul II's Theology of the Body, Christopher West returns to Sydney for the Family Gathering and will speak for both adults and for young people, aged 14 and older.
Workshop topics to be covered include The Church's vision for families; Parenting and passing on the faith; When relationships fail; Divorce and beyond - healing and growth; the vocation to be single; spirituality and sexuality; and interdenominational marriages.
Living the Dream will also feature a Youth Fest for teenagers with challenging speakers, including Bishop Joe Grech, as well as great music and good fun. Child care and a children's program is also available for younger kids.
