Archbishop backs family focus of drug rehabilitation
Melbourne's Archbishop Denis Hart has thrown his weight behind a Catholic organisation that believes strengthening the family unit is the best way to fix the problem of drug abuse.
Mary of the Cross Centre, a division of Centacare Catholic Family Services, offers support and skills for families to cope. It says members of the families of drug addicts frequently experience distress, anxiety and chaos, and they often feel the shame and stigma of a perception that they are a "failed" family.
Archbishop Hart called for support for the service, which was founded on the recognition that families are often the "forgotten people in tackling problematic substance abuse".
