Fr Caddy is currently Director for Social Policy at Catholic Social Services, Victoria and Chaplain to Melbourne's maximum security men's prisons. He has served on the Board of Catholic Welfare Australia for three years where he chaired the Social Policy and Research Standing Committee.

He said in a statement released yesterday that the Church should contribute to the shaping of public policy, as it is the largest non-government provider of organised welfare and care to the poot.

"The Church has a responsibility to contribute in a major way to the shaping of public policy and the social order in the interests of those who are disadvantaged."

Meanwhile Director of the Sydney-based Uniya Jesuit Social Justice Centre Sr Patty Fawkner SGS (pictured) has been appointed to the Commission for Australian Catholic Women (CACW).

And following the Annual General Meeting, the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Catholic Council (NATSICC) has announced new members.

The elected council consists of Chairperson Melissa Brickell (Victoria), Deputy Chairperson Ernie Trevaskis (Queensland), Secretary Elsie Heiss (New South Wales), Treasurer Jenny Brown (ACT), Marlon Riley (National Youth Representative), Leonie Kelly (Western Australia), Kara Williams (Tasmania), and Shirley Peisley (South Australia). The Northern Territory and Torres Strait Islands are currently without representation.
