ACU lecturer receives theological research grant
Australian Catholic University lecturer and Presentation Sister Dr Mary Coloe has received an Australian Research Council grant to further her theological research on the Gospel of John.
The research project is titled: Dwelling in the Household of God: The Spirituality of the Fourth Gospel. Dr Coloe proposes to argue that the household scenes in John's Gospel point to the expression The Household of God as an important metaphor for the self-identity of the early Christian community.
The project will extend knowledge of the history and religious experience of one Christian community in the last three decades of the first century, particularly in the community's relationship with emerging Rabbinic Judaism.
The $100,000 grant over three years is from the government-funded Australian Research Council. The Council's mission is to advance Australia's capacity to undertake quality research that brings economic, social and cultural benefit to the community.
Dr Coloe's doctoral thesis God Dwells with Us: Temple Symbolism in the Fourth Gospel, published in book form by the Liturgical Press in the USA and launched by John Garratt Publishing in Melbourne in 2001, presented a new approach to the interpretation of the Fourth Gospel.
