Wiggles endorse Vinnies Christmas Appeal
Children's entertainment phenomenon the Wiggles took time out from their busy schedule yesterday to promote the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal in NSW/ACT.
They leave for the US tour today, while yesterday they were preparing for last night's ARIA music awards at which they received an "outstanding achivement" honour.
St Vincent de Paul Society State President John O'Neill presented The Wiggles with a certificate of thanks for their support.
A Vinnies spokesperson explained that the Wiggles would like all children to be happy, especially at special times like Christmas. They recognise that some families are in circumstances that make this really difficult, and need help from organisations like St Vincent de Paul.
This week is Children's Week. Children's Week is an annual event which celebrates the right of children to enjoy childhood. Yesterday the Wiggles and the St Vincent de Paul Society stressed that children "need love and care to thrive".
The St Vincent de Paul Society made over 500,000 home visits in NSW last year, providing food, clothing and assistance with bills to people who are struggling to make ends meet. 50% of this assistance was given to families with children.
At Christmas time, many families find it difficult to meet the demands of the season. Many cannot provide their children with presents or enjoy a Christmas lunch together. Over the next two months, the St Vinnies members and volunteers will be busy preparing thousands of Christmas hampers, providing these families with a present for their children and a meal to share together on Christmas Day.
Vinnies is asking for donations of cash by calling 131812 or visiting their website.
