Vatican releases busy papal agenda
Pope John Paul II's schedule for the next three months includes canonisations and beatifications, as well as the celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of his pontificate.
The Pope will canonise three saints and proclaim six blessed, including Mother Teresa of Calcutta, according to his calendar of celebrations for September, October and November, published late last week by the Vatican press office.
The key papal events begin with the 11-14 September apostolic pilgrimage to Slovakia, the Pope's 102nd international trip, and his third to the former Communist country.
The other papal trip is a 7 October visit to the Shrine of the Virgin of the Holy Rosary of Pompeii, near Naples, Italy, as part of the closing ceremonies of the Year of the Rosary.
The most important event in the papal agenda is scheduled for 19 October - World Missions Sunday - in which he will celebrate the 25th anniversary of his pontificate with the beatification of Mother Teresa, in St. Peter's Square.
On 5 October, also in St. Peter's Square, the Pope will canonise three missionaries, including Fr Arnold Janssen, founder of the Society of the Divine Word.
