Sydney CEO reports success luring teachers with laptops
Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Sydney have attracted almost 200 applications from aspiring teachers by offering computers and cash as incentives.
Emerging graduates seeking positions with the Sydney Catholic Education Office are given the choice between a laptop computer and a $2500 scholarship.
Laptops have proved the most popular lure by a margin of three to one as the best and brightest students rush to take up the offer.
University-schools liaison officer Mark Rix told the Daily Telegraph the incentives had made a "profound impact" on the recruitment drive.
