Missionaries of Charity celebrate Mother Teresa's 93rd birthday
Members of Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity Congregation around the world celebrated her 93rd birthday yesterday.
At the Mother House in Kolkata (Calcutta), the day began with a special mass in Mother's memory at the building's first floor chapel.
The MC sisters, brothers and fathers then joined devotees at Mother's tomb on the ground floor singing "Happy Birthday" to the Nobel Laureate nun scheduled to be beatified by the Vatican on 19 October.
Crossover singer Usha Uthup added to the solemn atmosphere by rendering songs composed by her in the memory of the Mother.
Later in the day, the All India Peace Council organised an All Faith Prayer meet at Mother's tomb. MC houses elsewhere also celebrated the day with prayers and various programmes for the poor.
Yesterday, a mass feeding program was organised by the Missionaries of Charity in the east of Kolkata as a prelude to the celebrations of Mother's birthday.
