Victorian Diocese considering cooperation with child care plan
The Diocese of Ballarat in Western Victoria is evaluating an offer from National Childcare Pty Ltd to establish child care facilities on land held by three parishes.
St Alipius parish priest Fr Adrian McInerney told the Ballarat Courier that it would be a good way for the diocese to help with the problem of childcare.
A report submitted to the Ballarat City Council at the end of May revealed an extra 150 child care places were needed in the city.
"The great advantage to us means we retain our assets, and provide childcare in the area," Fr McInerney said.
The centres would cater for before and after school care, and be open to children of all denominations.
Fr McInerney said the centres would be a community service and not just for Catholic children.
He also said the provision for before and after school care would be greatly welcomed, as the St Alipius Primary School currently does not have the means to do the job.
