Archbishop speaks out against nudity
Archbishop Anthony Olubunmi of the Nigerian capital of Lagos has instructed his priests to join a crusade to counter the "increasing wave of indecent dressing and nudity".
"We live in a permissive society, the rate of crimes such as abortion, assassination, euthanasia and nudity were on the increase and being canonised as virtues," he said in the May issue of his circular to priests.
The archbishop argued that the idea of God is "innate in Africans" but wondered why they should "slaughter [their] cultural heritage for things sacred on the altar of so-called civilisation".
He therefore called on priests, religious and "lay faithful with the fear of God" to help rid Nigerian society of such evil.
