Catholic lobbyists welcome review of Medicare
Independent Catholic lobby group PolMin has welcomed the Federal Government's review of Medicare as a step towards giving Australians living in regional areas have the same level of service as those in urban areas.
"At present medical professionals are financially disadvantaged if they move out of urban areas and set up practice in regional areas particularly small regional towns," according to a PolMin statement released on Friday.
"One of the key policies governing the availability of medical practitioners to regional Australia is the policy governing Medicare.
"PolMin will be lobbying Federal Parliamentarians in the coming months as this policy review unfolds so that the Federal Parliament meets its international obligations under the Copenhagen Declaration," said PolMin coordinator James McGillicuddy.
