Pope expresses grief for Korean subway fire victims
Pope John Paul II has sent a telegram expressing profound grief to the Bishop of Daegu, South Korea.
The Holy Father's message, sent by Vatican State Secretary Cardinal Angelo Sodano, assured Bishop Paul Ri Moun-hi of his prayers for the victims of the subway fire that devastated the city earlier this week, claiming at least 120 lives.
"Saddened by the great loss of life in the arson attack on a subway train in Taegu, the Holy Father asks you to kindly convey his heartfelt condolences to the civil authorities and the afflicted families," Cardinal Sodano said.
"He prays for the eternal repose of the victims and invokes God's gift of strength and comfort upon those who are in mourning."
