Pope prays for space shuttle victims
Pope John Paul on yesterday called on people to pray for the seven astronauts killed in the break-up of the space shuttle Columbia and said his prayers were with their families.
"The painful news of the tragic explosion of the US space shuttle Columbia has triggered sharp emotions in everyone," the Pope said in his weekly Angelus address in St Peter's Square.
"I invite everyone to pray for the victims of the accident," the frail 82-year-old Pontiff told hundreds of faithful packed into the square.
"At this extremely testing time, I am spiritually close to the relatives. I assure them that I will remember them in my prayers."
