52% of Australians think Aboriginal people not disadvantaged


The lead story in the Welfare Watch email newsletter of Catholic Welfare Australia today carries a report on research by ACOSS (Aust. Council of Social Services) that shows that 52% of Australians believe Indigenous Australian are not disadvantaged. The newsletter, that is a relatively new communication's initiative by Catholic Welfare, also provides updates on Aged Care and Family Issues, Immigration/Population, Public Housing and Welfare Reform. The newsletter is also available on the web.

The newsletter reports "the ACOSS report entitled, Budget Priorities - Indigenous Australia, looks at the real picture of Indigenous disadvantage in Australia. The Report provides recommendations by ACOSS to the Federal Government, of concrete steps, through its own budget, that may be taken to address the needs of Indigenous Australians.
