Church now careful to investigate all claims

NY Newsday is reporting that the Church "is now afraid to ignore any claim" of abuse and illustrates this with the case of Maurice Cartee. The paper says "Cartee's allegations, which included a charge against New York Cardinal Edward Egan, weren't made public until two days after Christmas, when it was announced by the New York Archdiocese that they were unfounded" and quotes Fr Richard John Neuhaus, editor in chief of First Things, saying "the bishops are extremely reluctant to do anything that could possibly be construed as not taking a charge with relentless seriousness."
