Parramatta launches Australia's first diocesan Women's Commission
Bishop Kevin Manning has established a Diocesan Women's Commission in the western Sydney Diocese of Parramatta.
The inaugural meeting of the Parramatta Diocesan Women's Commission took place on Tuesday last week.
Bishop Manning said the Commission has two roles. It should promote ongoing dialogue on women's participation in the life of the local church, and assist him in implementing the proposals of the Australian Catholic Bishops' Conference on the participation of women in the Australian Church.
A statement from the Diocese says the composition of the Women's Commission reflects the diversity of the Diocese. It comprises a variety of age groups, family settings, geographical locations, ethnic background and work situations. In addition, all the members have had some parish or community involvement and some formation in theology or ministry.
