Paralysed man says Padre Pio cured him
A man left paralysed and unable to speak after a car crash claims he is walking and talking again after St Padre Pio's spirit visited him.
Luigi Venneri says the Capuchin friar appeared and spoke to him by his hospital bed.
The 26-year-old from the Calabria region of Italy told journalists: "He told me to stay calm because I would soon be standing up again."
Mr Venneri added: "I can walk now and I was told I can leave hospital very soon. It's all because Padre Pio helped me."
A hospital spokesman said: "We're not sure why he can walk now. We're waiting for a specialist to see him."
Stigmatic Padre Pio, who died in 1968 and was canonised by the Pope earlier this year, has been credited with a number of miraculous cures.
Diocesan officials are investigating the phenomenon.
