Oceania bishops evaluate Ecclesia in Oceania document

The Bishops of Oceania have sent a message of greetings to the Holy Father at the conclusion of their fourth Plenary Assembly held last week in the Papua New Guinea coastal city of Rabaul.

They told the Pope that his words inspired and encouraged them.

"It was with delight that we welcomed the Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation "Ecclesia in Oceania" delivered during your virtual voyage to the region via the internet, during the Promulgation Ceremony held on 22 November 2001 in the Clementine Hall of the Apostolic Palace, Vatican City.:

They also told the Pope that they they were encouraged, and filled with "joy and hope" to see the number of Seminarians and young religious, especially women, during the Rabaul meeting.

"We hear the call to holiness, to prayer, being open to the gift of Grace, to developing a renewed appreciation of the Sunday Eucharist, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation," they told the Holy Father. "We want to be a source of hope in society and a channel of practical assistance to the needy."
