Calcutta nightclub street may be named after Mother Teresa
Calcutta councillors want the street with the city's trendiest nightclubs to be renamed after Mother Teresa.
Workers on Park Street say they hope the move will improve drinkers' behaviour.
Officials at the Missionaries of Charity, established by Mother Teresa in the city, say they appreciate the gesture.
Sister Priscilla, secretary general of the organisation, says they haven't yet been consulted about the plan.
An employee of the street's Blue Fox restaurant told The Times of India: "Mother Teresa will now serve as a guardian angel and save the souls of devils who frequent the bars and nightclubs here."
The manager of a Park Street bar said: "Maybe night time revellers will now behave themselves for fear of divine retribution. Some will probably have fewer drinks and go home sober as a mark of reverence."
