Brisbane Catholic Archbishop wants fair go for G-G
The Catholic Leader reports that he said in an interview on ABC Radio in Brisbane last week that his heart went out to Dr Hollingworth, who is under pressure to resign following revelations about his handling of abuse cases while he was Anglican Archbishop of Brisbane.
In a letter to the editor published in The Courier-Mail the same day, Archbishop Bathersby said "Bearing in mind that our primary concern must always be for the victims of abuse, let us not deny him the fairness and compassion that is owed to each and every Australian irrespective of office."
On ABC Radio, he said Dr Hollingworth "was enormously welcoming" to him when he arrived in Brisbane in 1992.
"I came to like him very much. He is very direct, compassinate and has a great sense of humour.
Archbishop Bathersby said he regarded Dr Hollingworth and his wife as "close friends".
