Former brother gets 10 years for child abuse
An unnamed former Catholic brother was yesterday today jailed for a maximum of ten years for a string of sexual assaults against young children.
The 55-year-old man had pleaded guilty to sexually abusing eight boys and five girls from 1975 through to 1999.
He abused at least one of the children while he was still a Catholic brother.
The NSW District Court was told the children were aged between two years and eleven years and included the man's own son.
When handing down the sentence NSW District Court Justice Reg Blanch (Blanch) had volunteered most of the charges and was entitled to a discount for his admission and his guilty plea.
The man, whose name has been suppressed to protect the identity of his victims, will be eligible for parole in February 2008.
