Geoghan Sex Case Testimony To Start
The first of three criminal trials of defrocked priest, John J. Geoghan, has begun in Boston. At the same time a second priest has been arrested in Boston on child rape charges.
CBS News carries a report today on the commencement of the criminal trial of ex-Boston priest, John J. Geoghan. Testimony was set to begin on Wednesday following opening statements by prosecutors and Geoghan's defense attorney. In addition, 84 civil lawsuits have been filed and more than 130 people have claimed Geoghan fondled or raped them during the three decades he served in Boston-area parishes.
USA Today carries a report on the arrest on Monday of another priest, Rev. Kelvin Iguabita (33). Fr Iguabita is accused of child rape charges for allegedly assaulting a 15-year-old girl repeatedly over a four-month period. In a statement Tuesday, the Archdiocese of Boston said Iguabita would not be given any assignment pending the outcome of the criminal charges and a church review. The archdiocese said Iguabita took a leave of absence last July but did not say why.
