Laotian priestless parish celebrates late Christmas for children
Children were the focus of a late Christmas celebration in a priestless village in Laos.
The children took part in re-enactments of the Nativity and Jesus performing miracles in a paraliturgy to celebrate Christmas in Phonephieng village on 30 December.
The village, some 50 kilometres north of the capital Vientiane, has 29 Catholic families but has been without a priest since 1975, according to a catechist named Van.
He said the children were more active in the past year, helping to make a Christmas crib in the village, as they had received some help from a youth group at the Vientiane cathedral parish.
The children, joined by their parents and catechism teachers, then had a meal and received Christmas gifts.
