Vinnies seeks disaster relief assistance
The St Vincent de Paul Society is asking Australians for monetary donations to assist those affected by the bushfires in NSW and the ACT.
The donations will be used for the immediate provision of necessities such as clothing, mattresses, toiletries and blankets, and for longer-term assistance.
Although the Society has a stockpile of goods for disaster situations, the stocks quickly run down and need to be replenished, especially in situations where a large relief effort is required.
A spokesperson said the Society is grateful for generous offers from people to donate goods, but has requested monetary donations in order to minimise logistical problems that can interfere with their ability to provide immediate disaster relief.
Credit card donations can be made by calling 131812.
The Appeal is part of a co-operative effort with the Department of Community Services.
