Archbishop's 'horror' at bomb
Birmingham Archbishop Vincent Nichols has condemned the terrorists who planted a car bomb in the city centre at the weekend.
He said he feels "suppressed anger" that someone would try to kill innocent people, but also relief that no one was seriously injured.
The bomb, which contained more than 27 kilograms of explosive, was left in a beige Audi coupe car parked near New Street station on Saturday evening. Police think the dissident Irish republican group, the real IRA, carried out the attack.
"The first thing that comes into my mind is a real sense of horror that some people could plan and plant a bomb in a city centre with the clear intention of injuring many innocent and defenceless people," Archbishop Nichols said. "My second thought is to thank God that it did not work."
