Catholic hub proposed for Hobart

An innovative approach to the development of Catholic life was unveiled in Hobart last week when Archbishop Adrian Doyle made public plans for a multi-purpose centre for community, educational and parish services.

A Catholic primary school would be sited at Dodges Ferry in the Southern Beaches area near Hobart, alongside a child care centre, community centre and aged care facilities. The region chosen is one of the fastest growing in Tasmania.

The idea is supported by the Catholic Education Office, and in co-operation with other Church agencies including Centacare Tasmania and Southern Cross Care Tasmania.

A six-month feasibility study will include close consultation with local, State and Federal Governments, existing service providers and people living in the area. The facilities will be built on land already owned by the Catholic Church, but would be available for use by the entire community, not merely the Catholic population.
