German cardinal appears in airline ad
The president of the German bishops' conference appeared in an advertisement for an ailing German airline to help rebuild consumer confidence following terrorist attacks in the United States, a church spokesman said.
The advertisement, recently carried in German newspapers, featured a photograph of Cardinal Karl Lehmann of Mainz accompanied by the message "peace and freedom will have no future without contacts with other people."
Jurgen Strickstrock, spokesman for the Mainz Diocese, said, "The cardinal wanted to help rebuild confidence in air travel after 11 September."
Strickstrock added: "He also wanted to thank Lufthansa for the many journeys he's had with them and to remind us of the many other people who need the use of aeroplanes."
