Further honours for Australians at SIGNIS Congress
Director of the Australian Catholic Television Library and veteran TV documentary producer Peter Thomas, has received the Agnellus Andrew Award for outstanding contribution to Catholic Media in the Pacific region.
This follows the election earlier this week of Fr Peter Malone MSC as inaugural President of SIGNIS, the World Catholic Association for Communications.
Peter Thomas - Former Director of Catholic Communications Melbourne - was recognised for his commitment to promoting Gospel values in a secular and sometimes hostile media environment.
Director of the long-established National Catholic Television Library, Mr Thomas produces the weekly Mass for You at Home on Australia's Channel 10 network, as well as feature and documentary programs for other networks. This Sunday, his most recent production - a series on aid and development issues produced in association with Caritas Australia - goes to air on Channel 9 at 6:30 am.
SIGNIS, a body replacing the UNDA and OCIC - the separate Catholic organisations for film and television - is meeting in Rome this week. There was further success for Australians in the election of Mr Thomas and Fr Richard Leonard SJ, Director of he Australian Catholic Film Office, to the governing council of the new organisiation.
