Safe sex nun told 'remove Aids posters'

Bishop Michael Bowen of the London Archdiocese of Southwark has asked Sister Dorothy Bell, the archdiocese's Aids co-ordinator, to remove posters she sent to parish churches.

The posters, which mark World Aids Day on 1 December, give a helpline number and website address offering explicit information about how to use condoms for all forms of sex.

The 77-year-old Religious of the Sacred Heart has apologised to all the priests for "any anxiety".

She said: "If somebody is going to be promiscuous then let them protect themselves."

Her concern, she said, was that people thought Aids had gone away because there was little in the media about it.
