Josephites elect Kiwi as Congregational Leader

The Sisters of St Joseph have elected Sr Katrina Brill from the New Zealand Province as their new Congregational Leader.

The election took place at their 24th General Chapter, which concluded on Monday.

Sr Katrina, who succeeds Sr Giovanni Farquhar, will be assisted by a General Council of four: Sisters Monica Cavanagh from Queensland, Pat Malone from NSW, Joan Healy from Victoria and Sheila McCreanor from South Australia.

Accepting the position of Congregational Leader, she said: "I am excited to carry forward the direction this Chapter is taking."

Sr Katrina, who was professed in 1964, has been Provincial in New Zealand for the past six years. She has also been Dean of the Catholic Institute of Theology in Auckland - an Institute that she helped establish at the request of the Bishop - and Director of Religious Education in Auckland Diocese.

Her new appointment takes effect on 19 March 2002.
