Pope urges prayers for world peace
Pope John Paul, speaking on the eve of a day of remembrance for those killed in the attacks on the United States, asked for prayers for world peace.
"I invite you all to pray for peace and to be committed to building a world without violence, founded on respect for the dignity of every human being," he told pilgrims and tourists at his weekly general audience on Wednesday.
Yesterday, exactly one month after the September 11 attacks in New York and Washington, the Holy Father led a day of prayer at the Vatican.
He has called September 11 a dark day in the history of humanity.
